Hello fellow MX-5'ers
I have seen that a few local MX-5 owners have been struggling to find brakes. You can use the following (some are imports though)
Front Pads Safeline D3510 FDB 1893 Ferodo FDB1893 Wagner Brakes ThermoQuiet QC1179 (Front and Read Set, must import) Hawk Blue Brake 61-0154 Hawk DTC-30 for SIX PISTON CALIPERS Part #HB521W.800 / backing plate code 7420
If you really love your MX-5 Brembo GT Slotted Brake Kit - 1A5.5016A2 (Front and Read Set, must import)
Read Pads Safeline D3830 FDB 1894 Ferodo FDB1894 Hawk Blue Brake 61-0155
If you know of other good brands that aren;t super hard and destroy your Brake Rotors , please let us know. (Also where we can find local brakes)

Any idea on pricing of the above and performance compared to the standard Mazda brakes?

Pricing I am not sure on ask at your local spares dealer, I know from my Alfa GTV the Ferodo are HARD brakes and work well but they are SUPER HARD ! Did I mention that they are hard ? Brembo Kit would be the best bust super expensive :/ could only import them as I highly doubt anyone has them here locally. Safeline is safeline, just a good replacement cheaper than Stock Hawks are good sports pads but finding them locally will be VERY hard.

If anyone is looking for EBC brakes in South Africa it seems a company Formula Friction is doing them. A friend is getting his Alfa 156GTA brakes done through them and they seem to be a pretty reasonable price. - Pads (Yellow Stuff): R1600
- Discs: R4400
- Calipers: R2400

Ran EBC Yellow Stuff on my Lumina with slotted and drilled discs... Good improvement over stock for the Chev ( Please note that stock it was the worst braking car I'd ever driven... ) For the Mazda I've yet to feel any fade on the stock brakes but that being said I haven't tracked it yet... I have Brembo's on the RS and WOW do they work...!

How come drilled? I thought drilling was only needed for really old discs and that these days the compounds are much better and therefore only need slots and vents?
From reading other forums the NC MX5 has WAY better standard brakes than the others, however after hard track use people have complained of glazing and therefore they lose some of the initial bite during normal road use. I have noticed mine don't bite quite as well as they used to on initial press so can pretty much vouch for this.

Made a weird whistling noise while you were driving... Took some getting used to...
