Interesting debate this one. Some people seem to love the huge power figures a turbo can bring, where as others believe a Supercharger is more true to the Miata's original philosophy while still providing rather large power outputs... Cost is of course another issue. I'm probably wrong here, but my understanding is a supercharger kit is more expensive than a turbo kit.
I'm definitely on the Supercharger side, but wanna hear your opinions on it!

Supercharging is more expensive in SA.
Personally I don't think a supercharger makes sense on these cars...
Lots of low down torque but nothing in the high rpm...?
Turbo allows the motor to handle bottom end and force feeds at the high end... why rev to 7000rpm if the supercharger ran out of steam at 5000rpm...

From the properly done supercharger mods I've seen you basically enhance the characteristics of the engine with a super rather than changing them by using a turbo. Personally this appeals to me more because it's in keeping with the original philosophy. Also I've never seen a decent super tap out around 5000rpm?

(Obviously with higher torque and hp) Reason I say it runs out of steam is that at higher RPM it will not hold the same amount of boost as a turbo could... www.superchargersonline.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=7So more torque at the bottom but less power at the top... I prefer a Turbo's power curve as below...
