Hi All
Have my 2006 Softop for about 2 to 3 months now. I really enjoy the car, but I found myeself feeling that some more power would be nice😄.
Searching through the net, it seems like there are a number of tuners specialising in the Mx5 abroad (BBR-GTI, Goodwin, Flying Miata, IL Motorsport - to name a few) , but I cant find anyone local.
Some of the tuner kits quote very high gains (up to 308 HP). More power is always welcome, but i think in the region of 180KW should be more than sufficient.
As I use the car as an everyday drive, I don't think more power up high in the rev range would be the way to go. A supercharger or turbo might be the answer.
I have never owned a petrol turbo or Supefharged car. The one thing that used to irritate me from diesel turbo's would be the turbo lag down low.
i also do not normally modify my vehicles engines, as I like to have drivalbility and reliability.
Would be interesting to know if anyone has done any power modification and/ or who has the knowledge and skill in SA, preferably Gauteng?
if you can share experience regarding engine modifiactions, would be great. Also, has anyone dealt with any if the above mentioned tuners?
Regards R

Hello Rooikat Sadly I have also not found anyone who works specifically (or is a specialist) on Mazda MX-5's . Maybe ask at Mazda Boksburg or Germiston if they can recommend anyone who works on the cars ? I wouldn't just trust any auto tuner with it :/ The problem is i you add power you are taking away from reliability in the long term Depending on your budget, maybe look at getting a Ford Focus ST engine and gear box into the car, it fits and is a very popular mod in the U.K
