So, why do you want a lightweight flywheel? Increased sex appeal of course aside from that, you'll discover your engine is more responsive. Opening the throttle to match a downshift, letting the revs drop when shifting up - the engine will react more quickly. It'll make your Mazda MX-5 feel even more like a sports car.
There is a small but measurable improvement in acceleration in the lower gears thanks to decreased inertial losses but it`s not a huge difference.
You need to remember that installing a lighter flywheel DOES NOT mean more power ,it just means that less power is lost during the swap of Kinetic energy from engine to flywheel to gears. A lighter flywheel needs less energy to start and stop spinning ,hence fast acceleration.
Here is a nice kit
FM (Flying Miata) FM 8.4 LB LIGHTWEIGHT FLYWHEEL
Weighs 3.4 kgs (8.4 lbs). Steel with an integral ring gear. Fits NC models with either 5- and 6-speed transmissions.
It's also SFI certified for safety.
Other flywheels that are good to look at include

Installing this with the following 2 options should give you around 28HP gain at the rear wheels depending how well your tune is.

If we can get a few people together and do a bulk deal i am sure they would give us a special price ,although there are cheaper Header options out there and probably a few local ones
